As reported by PushSquare, a recent sales update from Capcom has revealed that Resident Evil 4 has broken the record for the fastest-selling Resident Evil game. The sales report, as of December 31, shows Resident Evil 4 selling a staggering 6.48 million copies through the end of its launch year. The total puts Resident Evil 4 significantly ahead of the previous leader in the Resident Evil 2 remake, which sold 5.8 million units during a similar timeframe. Resident Evil 4's 6.48 million copies also comes in at just over 1 million higher than its last reported sales in September.
Resident Evil 4 (2023) Becomes Fastest-Selling Resident Evil Game
Resident Evil 4's overwhelming success follows similar triumphs for the franchise from many of its most recent entries. Nearly every recent release in the franchise has taken the honor of fastest-selling Resident Evil game following its launch, with Resident Evil Village achieving similar accolades. Resident Evil has also been a mainstay at awards shows, with Resident Evil Village's VR mode recently taking "Best VR/AR Game" at the 2023 Game Awards. Similar to Resident Evil 4, the Resident Evil 2 remake also received a nomination for Game of the Year in 2019.
