During a State of Play event held by Sony, HoYoverse reveals a new trailer for its upcoming action RPG Zenless Zone Zero, also confirming the game is launching on the PS5. HoYoverse has been cruising as of late as both Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail have continued to pull in a huge and captive audience. While utilizing different gameplay styles, both titles have adapted a live service model and gacha style system that not only continues to add new content and seasonal events, but also introduced new characters into each game that players can essentially spend in game currency to try and unlock.
HoYoverse is hoping that it can again tap into that popular formula for its next major game known as Zenless Zone Zero. The futuristic post-apocalyptic title is again covering a completely different genre, this time an action RPG hack and slash with roguelike elements. According to the game, a strange natural disaster called The Hollows has taken place, unleashing an enemy faction called Ethereal on the world, where a new group of heroes has to rise up against them and save what's left. Zenless Zone Zero has had multiple beta tests, giving players early access to the game, though details remain relatively slim. However, a new trailer has given fans another look at the upcoming ARPG.
Debuting at Sony's first State of Play event for 2024, the latest trailer for Zenless Zone Zero shows off the urban environment where the game is set, a massive city known as New Eridu. The stylish footage shows off fast-paced combat, fluid animations, and wild effects, which seems to lend credence to HoYoverse's claims that Zenless Zone Zero will feature "a one-of-a-kind art style." The footage also clearly differentiates it from HoYoverse's other games, which are not as dynamic and fast-paced as what Zenless Zone Zero is showing off.
Zenless Zone Zero Confirms PS5 Launch
For PlayStation fans, the big reveal came at the end of the trailer, which confirmed that Zenless Zone Zero is in development for the PS5. While no doubt exciting for many fans, the news shouldn't be too surprising considering that both Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail have also launched on the PS5. However, it's unknown if Zenless Zone Zero will be available on all platforms when it launches sometime in 2024 or if PlayStation fans will have to wait a bit longer following the launch on mobile and PC.
