Gears of War creator Cliff “CliffyB” Bleszinski offers his stance about his potential involvement with the in-development Gears of War 6.
Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has shared his thoughts on the rumored next entry in the franchise, suggesting that he would be open to returning to the series. First debuting on the Xbox 360 in 2006, the science-fiction shooter franchise would become one of Xbox's most popular first-party franchises. The first three games were all developed by eventual Fortnite creator Epic Games, with in-house Xbox studio The Coalition taking over the franchise starting with Gears 4. Now, Gears of War's original creator is still interested in helping with the franchise's future.
While not much is yet known about a potential new Gears of War, rumors have swirled about the currently unannounced Gears of War 6. Leaks have hinted that the next Gears of War may see a major shift from past games in the series, suggesting Gears of War 6 may debut as an open-world game taking notes from Gears 5's open environments. Leaks have also teased that Microsoft is aiming for a 2026 release window for the sixth Gears of War, marking a seven-year gap between it and Gears 5. Now, original creator Cliff Bleszinski is interested in helping out with the game.
As reported by VGC, a recent tweet from Cliff Bleszinski shares his official stance on a new Gears of War game, showing interest in being involved with the new release. Bleszinski, also known as CliffyB, says that he is "down to consult" on the game, considering the Gears of War franchise as "an enormous part of his legacy." He does reveal, however, that neither Microsoft nor The Coalition have contacted the original creator about Gears of War 6. Bleszinski also shares some of his personal projects following the shuttering of game studio Boss Key, working in restaurants, on Broadway, and now creating comics and doing stand-up comedy.
CliffyB Open to Consulting on Gears of War 6
While Bleszinski's involvement with Gears of War 6 is uncertain, CliffyB has not been shy about sharing his opinions and thoughts on the franchise's future. Bleszinski previously shared his excitement for the upcoming Gears of War game, based on information learned from a friend who worked as a writer for Gears 5. CliffyB also shared his own thoughts on how he would change the franchise, feeling that Gears of War could use a reboot similar to God of War (2018).
