PlayStation celebrates the remarkable success of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023, highlighting the game’s phenomenal performance throughout the year.
Hogwarts Legacy continued its impressive run as PlayStation announced it was the platform's most downloaded PS5 game in the United States and Canada during 2023. Hogwarts Legacy outperformed other heavyweights like Call of Duty, Spider-Man, Madden, and more.
Hogwarts Legacy released in February 2023 to widespread fanfare. The Harry Potter video game sold amazingly well and continued to challenge other major titles throughout the year, like when Hogwarts Legacy outsold the anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor months after the Harry Potter game's initial launch. During 2023, Hogwarts Legacy saw additional releases on the Switch and previous-generation consoles, which helped its sales continue to grow. Harry Potter's massive popularity, Hogwarts Legacy's entertaining gameplay, and the game's multiple releases helped propel it to impressive heights during 2023, and PlayStation just added another feather to its cap.
PlayStation revealed that Hogwarts Legacy was 2023's most downloaded PS5 game on the PlayStation Store in the US and Canada. Additionally, Hogwarts Legacy was the second-most downloaded PS5 game in Europe (beaten only by EA Sports FC 24), and the second-most downloaded PS4 game in the US and Canada (beaten only by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3). Hogwarts Legacy's place on the top of the US and Canada chart is obviously impressive, as it beat out favorites like Call of Duty and Madden. In Europe, the PS5 edition failed to outperform EA Sports FC 24 but beat out other titans like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and more.

As part of the game's impressive run in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy snapped a 14-year streak of either Call of Duty or Rockstar releasing the year's best-selling game. Many thought that Modern Warfare 3 would inevitably catch up to and overtake Hogwarts Legacy by the end of the year, but the newcomer managed to fend off one of North America's most popular series.
