The photo indicates the film's stars are very committed to staying in-character.

Production on the third film in the Deadpool franchise is in full swing, and star Ryan Reynolds recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo of the film’s production. Though the photo doesn’t provide many details about the content of the film itself, it does confirm one thing: The production team certainly has a sense of humor.

The photo, which Reynolds uploaded to his Instagram story, features a black-and-white shot of two director’s chairs, the canvas folding chairs commonly used on film sets by actors who aren’t actively filming a scene. These chairs typically feature the real name of the actor, director, or producer who is meant to occupy them, but in this case, the names on the chairs read “Logan” and “Wade Wilson”–an obvious reference to the two main characters of Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 3 will see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine (AKA Logan) teaming up with Reynolds’ “merc with a mouth,” whose real name is Wade Wilson. In the comics, Wolverine’s true name is James Howlett, but after an unfortunate series of events leaves him unable to remember his real name, his companion Rose O’Hara begins telling anyone the pair encounter that his name is Logan, in an attempt to protect his identity. The name sticks, but Rose evidently didn’t bother giving Wolverine a fake last name, hence Jackman’s chair being labeled with the character’s first name only, while Reynolds’ features his character’s full name.

Jackman’s involvement in the project was first announced by Reynold’s in September 2022 via a hilarious video uploaded to the star’s Twitter and YouTube accounts. The video features Reynolds sitting on his couch, recounting the work that went into planning the franchise’s third installment, before he casually asks, “Hey, Hugh. You wanna play Wolverine one more time?”

“Yeah, sure Ryan,” Jackman replies, revealing that he’s been lurking just out of frame for the entirety of the video. The one minute and 20-second video took fans by surprise, as it not only revealed Jackman’s involvement, but also the film’s release date. Deadpool 3 is currently slated to arrive in theaters on September 6, 2024.
