Description

Fight in the theatre of war that changed the world forever. Battle alongside your compatriots on some of the most inhospitable environments of the Eastern Front in Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 RO places you in the most realistic WWII first-person multi-player combat to date on the PC, allowing the player to fight through some of the most intense combat of the war. You can play as infantry, using a wide range of infantry weapons, or crew one of the many armoured combat vehicles available in the game, from half-tracks all the way through to the most famous German and Soviet heavy tanks. You can engage the enemy with everything from your bayonet at close quarters up to the massive 122mm cannon on the Soviet IS-2. And if that isn’t enough, find an officer and a radio to call in thunderous artillery strikes to shake the enemy loose. [Tripwire]

Positive Comment(s)

As frantic as it is visually stunning.100Times Online
Because Red Orchestra is not reliant on a story or linear gameplay and has plenty of variety, it remains a fresh and a different experience just about every time it’s played.86Worth Playing
There’s very little gameyness in RO and a whole lot of gritty crawling along the ground so you can flank over to that machine gunner and allow your team to advance to the next spawn point objective.85IGN
Distinguishing between friend and foe is the most brutally realistic touch of all, and the first thing you’ll hve trouble with. [May 2006, p.82]83PC Gamer UK
An accomplished title. But whether or not it can entertain you depends upon your personal taste in games. Love it or hate it, realism rules this roost.82PC Gameworld
I absolutely love the attention Tripwire has given to the small details in the game.80CPUGamer
Tripwire can take a lot of pride in Red Orchestra: Ostfront, a game for history buffs and FPS aficionados and, more importantly, a shooter for adults.80GameSpy
This isn’t a game where any session’s likely to be “relaxing,” but it is a game where every session’s going to be rewarding.801UP
Perseverance is key though, because this is not a game you rush into.80AceGamez
Red Orchestra is an enjoyable, team-based online shooter for those who like the Battlefield-style games but want a more technical and realistic experience.79GameSpot

Negative Comment(s)

The key to enjoying RO is embracing the realism. Still, this does not negate the fact that the intensity of the gameplay is reduced, and the general pace of the game is slowed.75Gamers’ Temple
Ostfront offers just a single, limiting game mode. [Jun 2006, p.46]74PC Gamer
