CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a direct sequel in the form of a comic book instead of another video game. The game was originally released in 2015 and is considered one of the best fantasy RPGs because of its deep lore, complex characters, and side quests that feel just as important as the main one.
Two expansions for the game were released, continuing the story of Geralt of Rivia as he faced off against a host of new and powerful enemies, including a Higher Vampire. While both the base game and expansions have a variety of different endings, some are more favored than others for obvious reasons. After the conclusion of the second expansion, Blood and Wine, Geralt owns an estate called Corvo Bianco in the beautiful Toussaint region, with players having the option of selecting whether the famed Witcher intends to settle down there when conversing with his vampire pal, Regis. Combined with the fact that Yennefer, one of Geralt’s love interests, can join him at the estate, many fans took this as a sign of exactly why the Witcher should retire.
Geralt and Yennefer retiring at Corvo Bianco is seemingly the canonical ending, as confirmed by a synopsis of a new Dark Horse comic book series called The Witcher: Corvo Bianco. This new series is a direct continuation after the conclusion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and has Geralt and Yennefer, who have gotten “a taste for a slower pace,” coming out of retirement in order to face off against a new threat. The series is a team-up between a legendary Italian artist Corrado Mastantuono and Bartosz Sztybor, a writer who previously worked on other Witcher comics featuring Geralt. The comic is planned to be a five-issue series, with the first one releasing on May 8 for $3.99.
It is no surprise that CD Projekt Red is keeping the world of The Witcher 3 fresh as it is a game that earned the developer a lot of goodwill from gamers ahead of Cyberpunk 2077’s launch. The game’s popularity prompted the developers to eventually debut the title on current consoles like the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S, with CD Projekt Red, even updating The Witcher 3 eight years after it launched.
The comic series is a chance for gamers to experience another adventure with Geralt and Yennefer. However, it is entirely possible that the Witcher 3 comic series is setting up a sort of passing-the-torch moment between Geralt and the next Witcher game's new School of the Lynx protagonist.
