Carl Weathers’ death has seen The Mandalorian cast take to social media to mourn the loss of the essential on-screen and behind-the-scenes actor.
The Mandalorian cast member Carl Weathers' death saw his co-stars from the Disney Plus Star Wars show take to social media to express their heartfelt reactions to the loss of their dear friend and contemporary.
The Mandalorian has been popular throughout its three-season run, with a fourth on the way. The series stars ultimate franchise actor Pedro Pascal in the lead role and a star-studded cast around him, which up until recently included Carl Weathers as bounty hunter guild leader Greef Kargawho, before he passed on peacefully in his sleep on February 1st, 2024, at the age of 76.
Weathers, a former NFL star and veteran actor of Rocky fame who earned an Emmy nomination for his role in The Mandalorian, was one of the show's best parts and had a hand in the show behind the scenes. In the wake of his passing, several prominent stars of The Mandalorian have taken to social media to express their grief and reminisce on their time with the legendary performer. Leading man Pascal was notably short on words due to grief, posting a vintage image of the icon with the simple caption “words fail 💔 #CarlWeathers.” Elia Kane actress Katy O'Brian also took to her stories to post in remembrance.
Others, while equally grieved, had more to say in remembrance. Katee Sackhoff fondly recalled bonding over the importance of family with Weathers, a sentiment Ming-Na Wen would also echo as she expressed her deep condolences to his loved ones in her post. Fellow industry legend Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian's Moff Gideon) voiced appreciation for the influence and support that Weathers provided throughout their long friendship. The iconic Jar Jar Binks and recent Jedi addition Ahmed Best expressed gratitude for meeting and forming a bond with Weathers, one of his childhood heroes. Best also appreciated Weathers' backstage role on the show, as he had returned to direct more episodes on The Mandalorian season 3 after a successful outing in season 2.
Weathers' passing is another sign that The Mandalorian season 4 should end the series, a sentiment that has been in place for a while now. With the Star Wars universe on Disney Plus leaps and bounds from where it was when The Mandalorian breathed life into it, the time has come for Mando and Grogu to bid farewell and ride off into the sunset.
