Following a recent update, a new weapon bug is ruining matches in The Finals and Embark Studios has acknowledged the issue and provided some insight into plans for dealing with it. This week, The Finals received update 1.5, which was a big step for improving a lot of aspects of the popular online shooter. One of the bigger additions through this update was the first limited time game mode called Solo Bank It, which tweaked the rules by pitting 12 players against one another to see who could acquire and bank 40,000 in cash. Ditching the team strategy, each player in this mode is fighting individually for glory.
Alongside a new limited time mode, update 1.5 also addressed a number of community concerns alongside bug fixes, and other issues currently impacting the experience. Over the past few weeks, The Finals players have raised concerns over abilities like the Cloaking Device being too strong, which has now been nerfed alongside other mechanics like the Grapple Hook and Mesh Shield. Balance changes also improved a number of weapons and abilities which were viewed as underwhelming, though it seems like the recent update has also had a negative impact on the game by introducing a major bug.
Recentl on The Finals subreddit, users began reporting a frustrating bug following the most recent update. Called "Game Breaking" by many including illuminacegg, it seems the light bloom effects on many of the game's weapons have been increased making them even more unweildy to use. When aiming down the sights with weapons like the M60, Lewis Gun, and MP5, the bullet bloom/dispersion is now much stronger than it used to be, which means far less accuracy during gun fights. Many in the community have indicated that these weapons are just about unusable now, making the gunplay feel worse and wondering why it wasn't mentioned in The Finals' Update 1.5 patch notes.
As it turns out, the changes were entirely accidental. Posting to The Finals official Discord channel, Embark Studios provided clarity with regards to the situation, confirming the issue stems from a bug and the team is looking into fixes for it as soon as possible. At the same time, Embark also confirmed another bug that snuck in, essentially doubling the value of the Zoom Sensitivity Multiplier for Controller from 60% to 120%. While the team is aware and working on a permanent fix, Embark has advised players to manually change the setting from the game settings menu.
Embark has typically been quick to address community raised issues, already tackling a number of problems since the game's shadowlaunch in December during The Game Awards. One of the bigger updates came earlier in January, as The Finals patch addressed player concerns with aim-assist and how effective it can be at times. Following an in-depth review by Embark, the update tweaked things like Zoom Snapping Time, Camera Magnetism, and fixed bugs such as being to snap aim at invisible players.
Framed as a game show, The Finals is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter that also supports melee combat. Embark's FPS emphasizes destruction along with teamwork.
