When Elden Ring was released in 2022, it took the gaming world by storm thanks to its challenging combat, beautiful art design, and intriguing open world. It was beloved by fans and critics alike, so much so that Elden Ring became the most-awarded game in history. Since then, fans have continued to enjoy FromSoftware's masterpiece by testing out its wide array of classes and tackling bosses in new ways. One fan continued this tradition but took things to another level.
Reddit user FutureAristocrat posted a video that showed them defeating Malenia by only blowing bubbles while listening to Careless Whisper by George Michael, a song that many users might recognize for its iconic saxophone riff that spawned the "Sexy Sax Man" meme. It took the Elden Ring fan eight minutes to kill the boss, as well as plenty of well-timed dodges and patience.
FutureAristocrat used various kinds of horns to blow bubbles and defeat Malenia, like Envoy's Greathorn, Envoy's Long Horn, and Envoy's Horn. The user explained that "the Envoy Horns are absolutely garbage weapons against fast enemies. The blowing animation takes forever and the bubbles are easily sidestepped or dodged by anyone that tries to do so … You can kind of use the Envoy's Longhorn and Envoy's Greathorn against Malenia's first phase." However, FutureAristocrat further explained that Malenia is too aggressive during her second phase to make the Envoy's Greathorn or Envoy's Longhorn a viable choice. Instead, they switch to the Envoy's Horn for the latter half of the video. If other users wish to replicate the impressive exploits of FutureAristocrat, they should probably heed their advice.
Many users consider Malenia to be among the hardest bosses to defeat in Elden Ring, which led many fans to express how impressed they were in the video's comment section. The top comment even calls FutureAristocrat's achievement "beautiful." Although the user took a unique approach to one of Elden Ring's many boss fights, the game itself has been known to take unique approaches with unsuspecting players.
One Elden Ring player received some surprise assistance from a Giant Land Octopus during a difficult boss fight. These large creatures are usually hostile, but have been known to assist players in boss fights on rare occasions, highlighting Elden Ring's huge selection of unique encounters. Whether or not players want to force a new approach by using something like bubbles, the game will sometimes create unique scenarios whether the player wants them or not.
Although some players might feel like they've seen everything the game has to offer now that it's been out for nearly two years, Elden Ring fans still have a lot to look forward to in 2024. Its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is expected to be released sometime this year.
