About TerraNova Engine

Create worlds, draw maps, and build whatever you imagine

Terranova Engine is a world-building tool for planets and maps. Create celestial bodies and draw maps — as a 3D sphere or flat 2D cartography, the choice is yours; place landmarks freely and give them emblems or totems; craft and import planet textures; plan routes and navigate. Build any map or planet you can imagine.

Create celestial bodies, draw freely

Build from scratch — stars, planets, moons, dwarf planets, asteroids, comets... set their size, appearance and orbit any way you like.
3D sphere / 2D flat dual view — switch with one key, and zoom, rotate and pan smoothly, choosing between globe view and flat cartography.
Build it your way — whether it is a map or a whole planet, it is under your control.

Place landmarks freely, give them unique totems

Place landmarks anywhere — create landmarks at any spot on the map and mark every place.
Emblems and totems — a symbol library plus a layer editor to paint a one-of-a-kind emblem or totem for every landmark.
Huge landmark variety — cities, mountains, rivers, lakes, countries, provinces, airports, ruins, military bases and 30+ more types.
Quick lookup — keyword search, category filters and favourites, with multilingual place names translated automatically.

Craft and import planet textures

Built-in skins — Default, HD, Night, Hydrology, Terrain, World Map, Borders, Blank and more.
Craft and import custom textures — height maps and high-resolution tiles, plus longitude/latitude offsets and flips for fine-grained control over every face.

Routes and navigation

Route planning — set start and end points, get the total distance and estimated travel time across 10 modes: walking, oxcart, horse, bicycle, car, train, high-speed rail, airliner, fighter jet and missile.
Sticker annotation — drop text or image stickers anywhere to record your discoveries.

Realistic celestial simulation

Rich celestial bodies — black holes, neutron stars, pulsars, white dwarfs, red giants, and nebulae, galaxies, clusters and constellations.
True orbital mechanics — rotation and revolution, orbital inclination, ascending node, argument of periapsis, eccentricity and tidal locking.
Immersive visuals — realistic lighting, atmosphere, clouds, magnetosphere and planetary rings; black-hole event horizons, accretion disks and gravitational lensing, pulsar beams and comet tails.

Project management and Steam Workshop

Create, save, export and import projects to back up your universe in one click.
Deep Steam Workshop integration — share your worlds and download others'.
