About ELbab

ELbab is a roguelite auto-battler set inside an endlessly expanding library.
Each run is designed to last 30 minutes to 2.5 hours.
You progress by choosing tiles, like in a dungeon-crawler, while the overall feel is like playing a build planner from a hack-and-slash game.
Combat itself is fully automated, so most of your playtime goes into designing your build.
Because the game is auto-battle and playable entirely with the mouse, it is perfect for multitasking: enjoy a cup of coffee, watch videos, or play other games while progressing through ELbab. Assigning the ESC key to a mouse button makes it even more comfortable.
The difficulty is intended to be on the tougher side. However, since ELbab is developed by a solo creator, enemy variety and overall balancing may not be perfect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Isn’t the inventory too small?
A. It is small. But for now, we think choosing what to keep and what to let go is part of the gameplay, so the current size is intentional.
Q. Aren’t the STR / INT / DEX requirements too strict?
A. Each character has certain stats that appear more frequently, so the intended strategy is to strengthen books that match that character’s favored attributes.
Q. Aren’t some rooms much more valuable than others?
A. Here are answers regarding a few key rooms.
The Room of Awakening: Our intention is to place enough Unique Books here to let you set a direction for your build, similar to choosing a class in a traditional RPG.
The Room of Treasure: The reward includes a Book and Ink, though it may not be obvious that Ink is being awarded.
The Room of Conversion: The Unique Book you get depends on the MODs on the Normal Book you convert, so you can aim for specific Unique Books to some extent.
Q. I want to respec my Runestone Points…
A. Once you clear the Library, a feature called the Library Index is unlocked. It lets you remove Notables. A full respec is not possible.
Q. Can the randomness of the map rooms be improved?
Q. Can book enhancement be made available at any time?
A. One answer for both questions.
The Library Index also provides features such as “enhance anytime” that let you adjust the Library’s tiles to some extent.
