About Commit!!!
The legacy monolith is the final boss.
COMMIT!!! is a life-and-career simulation about being a software developer. You take jobs, ship commits, and inherit somebody else's undocumented monolith. Codebase debt is real and it fights back. Rent is due. The performance review is coming. Your bank balance and your nerves are both stats — and only one of them refills overnight.
Ship the commit. Plan each day in slots, then resolve real development work through the Commit Pulse: feature work, bug-fixing, merge-conflict resolution, refactors, stack-trace hunts, and code review — each its own distinct minigame modeled on the operation it's named for. Land it clean for an Ace; fumble and you ship a hidden bug that QA may or may not catch before it reaches production.
The debt compounds while you sleep. The monolith is the antagonist. Refactor it, route around it, or drown in it — every unfixed bug and every shortcut is quality debt that comes due at ship time, when reliability is scored against what you actually left in the code.
Take the job — any job. Startups, enterprises, agencies, and one-off gigs each arrive with their own codebase, their own debt, and their own way of breaking your week. Interview for the offer, negotiate the salary right up to the brink, hold the job through weekly performance reviews, and earn raises — or get fired after one too many rough weeks. Or incorporate: hit real traction and go founder, with a burn rate, a weekly revenue tick, and one hire whose commits aren't yours.
Then the AI era arrives. Mid-run, the industry shifts. Subscribe to an assistant and delegate your work — faster, but it leaves AI Residue: invisible debt and bugs that hide behind a convincing "False Green." Learn to Trust But Verify, or ship someone else's hallucination under your name.
Ship and be seen. Post to the DevWire feed, gain followers, build a reputation — or torch it with one bad take. Earn the unprompted nod of a Legendary Coder. The timeline never forgets.
Your career, a story. Events, choices, relationships, a cat, burnout, and an epilogue that remembers what you shipped and what you skipped. Careers end. This one gets a changelog.
